My name is Colleen Gormanly and I am the Project SERVE Volunteer for 2009-2010 at the Esperanza Center. I was born and raised in Yonkers, New York and I went to American University in Washington, DC.
Before I came to Baltimore, I spoke with Markea Daniels, the Project SERVE Volunteer from 2008-2009. She told me about the program here at the Esperanza Center. As she described her experience over the year, she said her work here made every day better.
Throughout my time here, I feel the same way. The staff, volunteers, and students are wonderful. The ESL program provides a unique opportunity for people who want to learn English. The volunteers have a genuine concern for the students and the students appreciate what the volunteers can share with them. The Esperanza Center is a place full of patience, flexibility, and kindness.
I hope that the students will be blessed and can accomplish all their goals. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to know everyone here.
