My Sister’s Place Women’s Center has had a very busy year. The need for our services continues to grow. We saw 915 new clients this year, and provided basic services to a total of 3,181 clients through the day shelter. With the assistance of our wonderful volunteers who cook and serve, we provided 68,498 meals – breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 7 days a week. Of the many women we helped:
- 24 women secured employment
- 78 women were referred to a health care provider and have received ongoing services
- 65 women were placed in emergency shelter
- 14 women were assisted with temporary housing, and
- 52 women were moved into permanent housing.
Families that Work, a workforce preparedness program for pregnant women, is part of the Center. Our staff and clients worked hard, with 431 women enrolled during the year. Thirty-seven women have had their babies and secured employment, and 5 have passed their GED exams.
Another program which is part of the Center is the Samaritan Center. We answered 84,482 phone calls, had 1,108 people walk-in to request help, and were able to provide services for 892 clients. Of the services we provided:
- 124 clients were assisted with $70,810 in eviction support
- 464 clients were assisted with $187,575 in utility support
- 304 clients were assisted with $78,282 in travelers aide
My Sister’s Place Lodge is a residence for formerly homeless women with mental illness. We assist them to re-join our community. During this period, we encourage their volunteer activity and 19 of our residents were able to volunteer in the community. In total, we assisted 45 women this year. Twelve women were placed into permanent housing, 9 enrolled in ABE/GED classes, and 4 women secured employment.
