“This furniture is so beautiful,” said a tearful and overjoyed mother as she welcomed teams of volunteers from Catholic Charities, Epworth United Methodist Church in Cockeysville and Boy Scout Troop 92 from White Hall who united to form a Furniture and Household Drive in early December. As a result, six families who were experiencing homelessness received essential furnishings for their new apartments.
Dozens of volunteers unloaded lamps, desks, beds, dressers, and a sofa to furnish apartments and transform them into welcoming homes. “My family and I are so grateful. When I sit in this chair, I melt,” added an appreciative recipient.
According to Sue DeSantis, Director of Community Housing for Catholic Charities, the families were in disbelief and the look on their faces was priceless. Many of these families never believed they would have a furnished living and dining room or bedroom furniture. The donated furniture filled five pick-up trucks and half of a 26 ft. Atlas Moving Truck.
