On Wednesday April 28th, the Esperanza Center hosted the annual Spring Lunch for volunteers and friends. The lunch was orchestrated by Volunteer Coordinator, Rosa Azcarate, who has been welcoming students and volunteers to the Center for twenty years, and is planning to retire in June.
Over thirty current and former volunteers attended the lunch, enjoying each other’s company and delicious food. Director Tim Kelly opened the lunch with a short talk about the tradition of ministry to immigrants in Baltimore, which is based on the virtue of hospitality. He recognized Rosa and the volunteers for their efforts and for sharing the gift of hospitality.
Volunteer teacher, Sharon Tufaro, and former student, Luisa Lopez, spoke about their experiences at the Center and what it means to them. Sharon talked about the joy of teaching and encouraged volunteers to support the Center. Luisa shared her gratitude for the volunteers and the staff who helped her to learn English and provided a warm welcome.
It was a wonderful opportunity for former and current volunteers, friends of the Center, and staff to celebrate the hope and hospitality of the Esperanza Center.
