“Knowing that you are loved and supported makes a world of difference and often family help is not the answer. In fact, they might be the problem,” said Kim Ridley who along with her friend Travella Bantum collected more than 80 new and nearly new handbags to give to women at My Sister’s Place Women’s Center. “Our lives have been full of struggle, and we wanted the women of My Sister’s Place to know that they are not alone. They are loved and not forgotten.”

To fulfill their good intentions, Ridley, the owner of Miracles and More hair salon in Parkville, along with her friend, Bantum, collected unused handbags from their closets and accepted donations from friends and hair salon clients. They filled the handbags with goodies and searched for an organization that could reliably assist them in distributing the bags to women in need.

After visiting many Centers, the duo settled upon My Sister’s Place Women’s  Center.

“We were confident that the purses would reach the women in need at My Sister’s Place,” said Ridley. Their good deed was highlighted on WJZ-Channel 13’s evening news on Monday, May 20 by reporter Mike Schuh. Click the link below to view the story.
