On Holy Thursday, our parish invites parishioners to come forward to have their feet washed and to wash another’s feet while asking the gospel question: “Do you know what I have done for you?”  Almost everyone participates in this moving ritual, reminding us to bend, to serve, to be served.

Now in a new phase of life – retirement, we are volunteering together to live the answer to that same question at Our Daily Bread Employment Center.

Throughout our working lives, we’ve had highs and lows, talented mentors, poor as well as great managers.  We have experienced painful layoffs and had people reach out to help us get back on our feet.

We draw on our experiences to help clients write resumes, search for jobs, talk about their fears and hopes.  We share the stories and struggles we’ve had through the years, meet caring volunteers and staff, and are humbled by simple thanks.  “Do you know what I have done?  I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”
