“I’m retired. I worked for the school system for 32 years as a janitor. I’ve been coming here for about seven years, every day, seven days a week. The staff is wonderful.”
“Every time I come here, I’m always greeted friendly, always greeted with pleasure, you know. It’s always a good meal here, and everybody is so nice.”
“I saw an ad, so I thought I would try it [volunteering]. And I did, and I loved it. I’ve been coming [for 15 years] ever since.”
“The people here keep me coming back. Volunteering here helps keep me grounded.”
“One of the reasons I donate my time… is that I see the need for places like this is to continue. I believe that human beings out on the street are just people who’ve found themselves in a bad place, but they still deserve to be treated like human beings.”
“When I was homeless, I came every day. I was very thankful. Whether it was snowing, sleeting or raining, they were open. Whoever started this up, they did a good thing.”
