The Neighborhoods at St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center provides a comprehensive array of individualized rehabilitation and nursing services, including short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing care, memory care, and in-patient hospice care. Caritas House Assisted Living provides care and assistance to seniors 62 and older who require help in performing daily activities and can no longer live independently. Whether or not you are familiar with the work of these programs on the Jenkins Senior Living Campus, Catholic Charities is proud of these programs that create homes for so many of our elders!
Here are some highlights:
Chapel Way Team at Caritas House is a small group of six caregivers who, through the leadership of their Household Coordinator, offer consistently excellent service to all of the residents in their care each day. They have helped residents literally get back on their feet by starting each day walking with residents up and down the corridors of their household. Each team member is guided by the Coordinator to think first about what will bring joy to the residents, and she then helps the caregivers do just that. One caregiver has been experimenting with various tasty breads she makes with the residents, and these breads are shared with everyone in the House. Another offers “get up and dance time” on what would otherwise be lazy afternoons. Another has requested that we start an herb garden this spring in the garden and, along with planting tomatoes, assist the residents in making salsa to share as part of an afternoon in the garden. All team members are encouraged to seek to enjoy their work with the residents. It is the Household Coordinator Grace Gamble who has led the Chapel Way team toward pro-active engagement with the residents far beyond the activities of daily living and medication management skills they bring with them to their positions. What are the results? Happier residents and caregivers who really enjoy working with their elders. Way to go Grace! Way to go Chapel Way Team!
“Thirteen & Thirty” Respectively at the Neighborhoods at St. Elizabeth.  Allen Graves, Sr. and Nina Korecki have worked together as our AM and PM cooks for 13 years.  It has been 13 years since Allen joined us; Nina has worked with us for 30.  As a team, they have taken care of the St. Elizabeth’s family through years of growth and change.   They are the unsung heroes of the kitchen who bring stability, support and a willingness to adapt and continually move forward in the midst of the ever- changing demands we all experience.   Today, we salute them!
Thanks to Grace, the Chapel Way Team, Allen and Nina – and to everyone who helps make both Caritas House and the Neighborhoods at St. Elizabeth wonderful homes for so many of our elders and great places to work for so many of our colleagues!
