I am thankful for the childcare at Sarah’s House. It allows me to go out and look for a job so that I can better provide for my family.

During the busy Holiday season, many of us can take for granted the multitude of blessings that we have in our lives. As Thanksgiving is just around the corner, at a time where most of us are gathering together with friends and family to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company, we have asked the clients of Catholic Charities to share some of the things they were particularly thankful for during this season of thanks. Here are some of the things they had to say.

“I am thankful for My Sister’s Place. It has always been a place that I can go and depend on the people there to support me and build me up even if I am not in the best of places. The people there help me try to keep positive no matter what is going on.”

“I am thankful for the ‘safe haven’ that Sarah’s House has provided me and my children. It is a place where I can collect my thoughts and work towards becoming a better parent and adult.”

“I am so thankful to the St. Jerome’s Head Start. They have helped me become an interactive parent that is deeply involved in my daughter’s life and is key to her growth and development.”

“I am thankful to Anna’s House for helping me to learn that life is what you make it. Through the help of Anna’s House and its staff and resources, my chances of making it has gotten a whole lot better.  I have taken full advantage of all that has been offered and my family and I have benefitted tremendously from it all.  I can’t say how thankful I am for all of their support.”

“I am so thankful for Our Lady of Fatima. My medical costs were overwhelming me, but because of this program, I am able to have safe affordable housing. I don’t know what I would do without Catholic Charities and my HUD housing.”

“I am exceedingly grateful for the existence of My Sister’s Place Lodge and the second chance it has given me. The Lodge goes above and beyond housing. It teaches valuable life and career skills so that residents can meet with success upon completion.”

“I am grateful for Gallagher Services. I have lived here 19 years and it is good here. I like it all the time.”

“I am so thankful for the Healthcare Services at the Esperanza Center. I took my twelve-year-old daughter there to receive help with her Goldenhar’s Syndrome.  Through the Center’s support she has been covered for ENTs and audiologists services and is able to receive medications.  Without the Center’s assistance, we couldn’t have afforded the care our child desperately needed.”

“I can’t say how thankful we are for St. Vincent’s Villa. Because of this program our son has made it through the year without needing to return to residential or be hospitalized.  None of this would have been possible without the steady, consistent, loving, and fair treatment he received there.”

“I am so thankful for Catholic Charities. I am 68 years old and unable to walk or use my hands much. But thanks to Catholic Charities Senior Housing at St. Luke’s Place and its Congregate Housing Services (CHS) Program I have found a degree of independence.”

“I am thankful to have a safe place at My Sister’s Place for myself and my children where we can stay warm and get three meals a day and where I can get the support I need to get us back on our feet.”

“I am very thankful for the Esperanza Center.  I had been suffering from a hernia for over five years and it was affecting my ability to do my job and provide for my wife and children. But the Center was able to help me receive the procedure I need so that I could go back to work and live my life again.”

“I am so thankful to Sarah’s House. They provided a place for me, my wife, and my children to stay while they helped me find employment. I truly appreciated their kindness, professionalism, and friendliness.”

Catholic Charities works hard to help these men, women, and children in the best ways possible. We aren’t just here to provide for the physical needs of our clients, but we also work to help them emotionally, spiritually, and mentally so that they can have the tools they need to regain stability and gain the strength they need to improve their futures. As these clients have shown us by what they are thankful for, we here at Catholic Charities are succeeding in working to improve the lives of Marylander’s in need.
