Esperanza Center Educational Services for Youth

Esperanza Center is currently offering after-school ESOL programs for students in grades 6-12. Students MUST be enrolled in school to participate. Youth over the age of 16 and NOT enrolled in school may participate in the adult ESOL classes.

  • Spring semester runs January to May
  • Fall semester runs September to December

Registration takes place every Thursday during our semesters, from 4:00-6:30 PM. Students MUST COME ACCOMPANIED by a parent or legal guardian to sign paperwork. If bringing a parent or guardian will be impossible, please call the Youth ESOL Coordinator, Brianna Melgar, at 667-600-2913.

Interested in volunteering or interning (summer) with the Youth ESOL Program?

To volunteer as a Classroom Assistant with the youth program, you will need to:

  1. Be over the age of 18 and fluent in English. Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, French, Mandarin or other language is desirable, but not necessary.
  2. Be able to commit to at least one day of programming per week for the entire semester.
  3. Read the volunteer Classroom Assistant position description, found here.
  4. Contact Youth ESOL Coordinator, Brianna Melgar at bmelgar@cc-md.org, to inquire about openings.
  5. Set up a volunteer profile, found here, and sign up for a Volunteer Information Session.
  6. Complete background check when prompted by the Volunteer Coordinator.

To intern with ESOL classes or our Summer ESOL Camp, you will need to:

  1. Be over the age of 18 and fluent in English. Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, French, Mandarin or other language is desirable, but not necessary.
  2. For a summer internship: be able to commit to all five days of summer camp (M-F, 9:30 am-12:30 pm) for five weeks.
  3. For other types of internships, see the requirements in the description below.
  4. Read the intern position description for the internship you prefer. For the summer, read here. For other times, read here.
  5. Contact with the Youth ESOL Coordinator, Brianna Melgar at bmelgar@cc-md.org, to inquire about availability.
  6. Send a resume and brief description of interest to Youth ESOL Coordinator with no less than two months of advance notice.
  7. Set up a volunteer profile, found here, and sign up for a Volunteer Information Session.
  8. Complete background check when prompted by the Volunteer Coordinator.
