Glorious Garden Day in Timonium showcases horticulture skills of individuals with intellectual disabilities who participated in a Green Garden Initiative in partnership with Baltimore County Master Gardeners, Blue Water Baltimore and Herring Run Nursery
WHAT: Visit the gardens of Gallagher Services in Timonium created by individuals with intellectual disabilities and the young people of St. Vincent’s Villa and Villa Maria School. All participated in hands-on training through the Green Garden Initiative.
Stroll the gardens of Gallagher Services, shop for native Maryland plants from Herring Run Nursery and participate in hands-on demonstrations led by partners from the Community Green Initiative and Blue Water Baltimore.
WHEN: Monday, August 20, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Background: For 40 years, Gallagher Services, a program of Catholic Charities of Baltimore, has served individuals with developmental disabilities. Through Gallagher, all participates are engaged in the community through volunteer, work and educational programs. Partnering in the Green Garden Initiative were young people from Catholic Charities’ St. Vincent’s Villa and Villa Maria School which serves children ages 5 to 15 who are managing severe mental, emotional and behavioral health issues. Through this initiative, individuals from Gallagher Services, St. Vincent’s Villa and Villa Maria School gained practical hands-on experience cultivating the gardens. The goal of the community partnerships is to pursue the knowledge and best practices that lead to positive environmental and ecological decisions for the Gallagher neighborhood and community.
