On March 2, 2016, while on a mission to Rome, Catholic Charities Executive Director Bill McCarthy attended a meeting at the Vatican. He recounts his meeting with Pope Francis, “I presented the Holy Father with the Our Daily Bread apron with his name and a cross embroidered on it. I also gave him an information sheet containing our clients’ stories and facts about the history of Our Daily Bread. I told him about the 35-year history of uninterrupted service at Our Daily Bread, the 12,760 consecutive days of service and the more than 7 million meals served by tens of thousands of volunteers to our neighbors who are hungry. He looked up from the apron and said “Thank you. Please continue and do more.” He also said, “Pray for me.” I said, “Your Holiness, we will pray for you and please continue to pray for us.”
